Motel Picks in Berkeley - Additional picks in the welcome mailing, above. Note that nearly all the motels are either a short walk to campus, or are close to the bus service on University Ave. Motels locations are shown on the Google Map in the Travel & Locations section below.

- Other online services - Expedia and Priceline regularly offer promotional deals.
- Booking tips - If you contact a motel directly by phone, consider requesting a discount, e.g., AAA, senior, etc. Motels sometimes are willing to match the price of nearby competitors.

- During registration, let us know if you'd like to participate in ridesharing. We'll share your interest with the other like minded attendees.
- Or use the CNPS Directory to locate colleagues along your route. An encouraging phone call from you might make the difference between someone attending live instead of just virtually.
Parking at a BART station - A great deal, for train riders only. See the Public Transit section below.
Distances and times - Expect slow traffic on all freeways on Friday afternoon after 3pm. Except at night or on weekends, avoid I-880 if possible. To avoid tie-ups, the use of real time navigation software (e.g., Google Maps) is strongly recommended.
- Los Angeles to Berkeley - 5h 49m (374 mi)
- Sacramento to Berkeley - 1h 20m (77.5 mi)
- Downtown San Francisco to Valley Life Sciences Bldg. by public transit - 39m
- Airports - Oakland (OAK), San Francisco (SFO) - Both are served by BART trains.
- AMTRAK - Capitol Corridor line stops at the Berkeley station. Other AMTRAK runs require changing trains.
- Local Transit - An alternative to parking in downtown Berkeley or other congested areas. As in other cities, the easiest way to plan your transit trip is via Google Maps. Pick your arrival time, and everything is calculated for you, including transit routes and walking time to and from transit.
- Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) - Downtown Berkeley station is convenient to campus. Pay at the station fare machines. Many other stations (not this one) offer parking for train riders. Best of all, parking is free after 3 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends - you only pay for your train fare. Three recommended stations nearby are Berkeley North, El Cerrito, and El Cerrito North.
- Alameda / Contra Costa Transit (AC Transit) - The bus service on University Ave. is convenient for those staying in hotels too far west to walk to campus. Payment options for visitors include contactless cards and phone wallet apps.
